2011 NWC Track and Field Meet

The Bluffton boys won seven of seventeen events and the Spencerville girls used great team balance to capture the 2011 Northwest Conference Track and Field titles today in the annual meet hosted this year by Ada High School.

Bluffton’s boys totaled 135.5 points to pull away from Columbus Grove (104.5) and Spencerville (103) for the boys championship. The victory by the Pirates ended Spencerville’s three year reign as NWC champions.

Spencerville’s girls won just one event but earned points in every event except the Long Jump to post 125 points and capture their second straight NWC title over Bluffton (91) and Columbus Grove (73).

Spencerville’s Levi Krouskop will continue his education and play football and baseball for Manchester College.

Spencerville’s Levi Krouskop will continue his education and play football and baseball for NCAA Division III Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana.  Krouskop was a three-year letter winner in football, basketball and  baseball for the Bearcats.  He started at tight end and linebacker and was also the punter for the Bearcat football squad. He earned honorable mention NWC honors his senior year. He will play tight end and wing back for the Spartans.  Levi was also a three-year letterman for the Bearcat baseball team. He is currently batting .375 with 2 HR’s, 10 RBI’s, and has scored 11 runs. He also has a 3-1 record as a starting pitcher. He will pitch and play first base at Manchester.

Girls Soccer sanctioned as a NWC conference team sport.

Varsity Girls Soccer will be a sanctioned conference sport in the Northwest Conference beginning in the fall of 2011.

Seven of the ten NWC schools will field teams that will compete for a Northwest Conference championship and all-conference post-season honors.

The schools involved are Ada, Allen East, Bluffton, Crestview, Delphos Jefferson, Lima Central Catholic and Lincolnview.

The schools will play a single round-robin schedule with three games and one bye each week.
There will be no specific “conference” night for play. Schools will schedule their conference games by mutual agreement within the week they are assigned to play.

The conference schedule will begin on Saturday, August 27, 2011 and will end on Thursday, October 13, 2011.

Spencerville’s Brittany Kill will sign to play basketball at Morton College.

Spencerville’s Brittany Kill will sign a National Letter-of-Intent to play basketball at NJCAA Morton College in Cicero, Illinois. Morton College is a member of the Skyway Community College Conference. Morton competes against seven other Illinois community colleges.

Brittany was a three-year letter winner and starter for the Lady Bearcats. She led the team in scoring her senior season, averaging 13 points per game. She was recognized as 2nd team NWC and Honorable Mention on the Lima News Dream Team. She was also a US Sports Student Ambassador and participated in the Friendship Games in Austria. Brittany is the daughter of Jeff and Penny Kill.

Columbus Grove senior post player Luke Kohls was a unanimous choice as the 2010-11 NWC Player of The Year in voting by Northwest Conference boys basketball coaches at the annual selection meeting Monday evening at Delphos Jefferson High School. This marked Kohl’s second straight POY award and first team all-conference selection.

Kohls averaged 17.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game for the Bulldogs and led his team
to both the Northwest Conference and Putnam County League championships.

He was joined on the NWC first team by Bluffton’s Levi Gleason, LCC’s Tyler O’Connor, Ada’s Konnor Baker, and Delphos Jefferson’s Ryan Ebbeskotte.

The voting procedure called for each coach to vote for the top 15 players on a 15-14-13, etc. point descending scale. No coach could vote for his own players.

Todd Turnwald, who led Columbus Grove to an 8-1 conference record and outright Northwest Conference championship was voted by his peers as NWC Coach of The Year.

2010-11 NWC Girls Basketball All-Conference Teams

Delphos Jefferson senior guard, Kristin Klausing, was a unanimous choice as 2010-11 NWC Player of The Year in voting by Northwest Conference girls basketball coaches at the annual NWC selection meeting Monday night at Delphos Jefferson High School. This marks Klausing’s second straight POY award, and her third first-team all conference selection.

Klausing averaged 18 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 4.2 steals per game in leading the Wildcats to a perfect 9-0 conference record and an their second straight outright NWC Championship.

Klausing was joined on the NWC First Team by LCC’s Stacia Allen, Crestview’s Madison Preston, Paulding’s Jessica Farr, and Delphos Jefferson’s Kennedy Boggs.

Dave Hoffman, who led Delphos Jefferson to the school’s eleventh overall NWC girls basketball title, was selected by his peers as the NWC Coach of the Year.
