This past spring season saw Coach Owen Pugh completing his 24th year as varsity softball coach and his retiring as head coach at the conclusion of the season. Coach Pugh started the Crestview softball program in 1985 and completes his illustrious career with an overall record of 407 wins and 148 losses. (He stepped away from the program for the 2005-2009 seasons.) He led the program to 12 Northwest Conference championships, 14 sectional, 10 district, and 5 regional championships, along with state runner-up finishes in 2001 and 2003. Coach Pugh capped off his career with a state championship in 2012 and was inducted into the Ohio High School Fastpitch Coaches’ Hall of Fame in 2012. Coach Pugh also retired from the teaching profession at the conclusion of the 2012-13 school year serving 35 ½ years as an educator.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A total of $66,000 in scholarships were recently handed out to 54 students during the 19th Annual OHSAA Scholar-Athlete Banquet held recently in Columbus.
The scholarship winners were selected by each of the six OHSAA district athletic boards. Jessica Burger, of Crestview High School, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship through the OHSAA sponsored by Taco Bell. Burger participated in volleyball, basketball, and softball at Crestview.
“The scholar-athlete banquet is always one of the highlights of the school year for the OHSAA,” said OHSAA Commissioner Dr. Dan Ross. “We all know that state tournaments are exciting and a thrill for the student-athletes, schools and communities, but to see so many students be honored this way for their extraordinary work academically is just as thrilling. They truly represent what it is all about and their families and schools are to be commended for helping them achieve great things already. I would also like to personally thank the OHSAA Foundation and our corporate partners for their generous support in helping make these scholarships possible.”
More About the Scholar-Athlete Selection Process
Scholar-athlete recipients are selected based on a point system which rewards students for grade point averages; ACT or SAT scores; varsity letters earned; individual and team athletic honors; and an essay. There are seven, 10 or 13 recipients from each district, depending upon the number of schools within the district. The recipients were selected by special committees within each of the six OHSAA athletic districts. Recipients of athletic scholarships from NCAA Division I or II institutions are not eligible for the award.
Northwest Conference student athletes who earned a varsity letter in a spring sport, and who alsomaintained a 3.0 grade average or better for the final grading period of the school year.

The 12th annual Van Wert County Hospital All Star Football Game hosted by the Van Wert Booster Club will be held Friday June 10th, at Eggress Stadium in Van Wert, Ohio. The gates will open at 6:30 with player introductions taking place at 7:15. The game will kick off at 7:30pm.
Thirty three players from the Western Buckeye League will compete against a combined squad of thirty three players from the Midwest Athletic Conference & Northwest Conference.
This is a fundraiser for the Booster Club. Come out and enjoy some football.
Overall athletic balance during the 2010-11 school year has enabled Columbus Grove to win its first “Don Bachman Award of Excellence” which recognizes the school in the conference that exhibits the highest level of consistent excellence in conference-sponsored sports and scholastic bowl competition.
The Bulldogs compiled 86.5 points to edge Bluffton by just one point and Lima Central Catholic by three points. The Thunderbirds had won four straight Bachman Awards after Crestview captured the honor in the first year of competition.
The award was started during the 2005-06 school year to honor longtime Northwest Conference commissioner/secretary, Don Bachman, who served in that position for more than thirty years before passing away late in 2005.
This year Columbus Grove won outright NWC titles in Boys Cross Country and Boys Basketball and added second place finishes in Golf, Wrestling, and Boys Track.
Other NWC champions were Ada (Academic), Allen East (Wrestling), Bluffton (Boys Track), Crestview (Volleyball and Softball), Delphos Jefferson (Girls Basketball), L.C.C. (Golf, Football, Baseball), and Spencerville (Girls Cross Country and Girls Track).
