boys_golf_150Lima Central Catholic overcame a blustery day and had four players shoot in the 70’s to defeat Allen East by 27 strokes in the 2012 Northwest Conference Golf Tournament at Hawthorne Hills in Lima.  The tournament victory also secured the seventh consecutive overall conference golf championship for the Thunderbirds.

The T-Birds shot a team total of 307 to outdistance the second place Mustangs  (334).

Spencerville (340) finished third.  Other  tournament team totals were Bluffton (365), Delphos Jefferson (377), Columbus Grove (390), Ada (394), Paulding (405), Lincolnview (406) and Crestview (427).

LCC senior, Josh Klaus, was the tournament medalist with a 75.  He defeated Spencerville senior, Evan Crites (75), in a three-hole playoff.  Third place went to Evan Wilker of LCC with a 77.  He defeated LCC teammate and younger brother Aaron Wilker (77) in a five-hole playoff for that honor.

Following today’s play,  the tournament finish for each school was combined with their regular season finish to determine the final golf standings for the NWC for 2012.   L.C.C. won both the regular season and tournament, and took first place with a perfect 20 points.  Allen East (17.5), and Spencerville (17.5) tied for second followed by Bluffton (14) and Delphos Jefferson (12).

The other schools’ order of conference finish was Ada (9), Columbus Grove (8.5), Lincolnview (5.5), Paulding (5) and Crestview (2).
